Climbing Kilimanjaro
OCTOBER 2024
Climbing for a cause.
Life is full of peaks and valleys. While we don’t always control where the valleys take us, we can absolutely choose the summits we chase.
I’m heading to Tanzania in October with St. Jude Heroes and Embark Exploration Co to trek up Mount Kilimanjaro and raise funds for childhood cancer research and treatment at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
With your help, we can cross the fundraising finish line. Join me in helping find a cure for childhood cancer as I raise funds for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Every dollar makes a difference.
Together, we can ensure that many more children have the chance to climb their own mountains, supported by the care and research that only St. Jude can provide.
Even when the climb is done, the fight to end childhood cancer continues.
IMPORTANT UPCOMING DATES:
Wednesday, October 9 - Wednesday, October 23: Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, Africa.
Thursday, October 31: Deadline to have raised the total $12,000 commitment to St. Jude for the Mount Kilimanjaro Trek.
Thank you!
A huge thank you to everyone who came out to the WBKR Yard Party | Kilimanjaro Send-Off last week. It was great to see so many friends and make new ones. Because of you, we raised more than $6,000 for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
When all the checks are input and the last few donations roll in, we will have blown by the $12,000 commitment and exceeded $15,000 raised for the kids at St. Jude.
The event would not have been possible without Ben Skiadas and Erich Stranger from Lure Smoke Shack. These guys put together one heckuva menu and worked tirelessly to set the standard for a box lunch fundraising event. If you haven't tried the Shack yet, please stop and visit them when you see the food truck out and about. You can also find their handiwork at Lure Seafood and Grille and The Lot Food Truck Park & Events. You'll be glad you did.
Others that went out of their way to help make today a success were Dustin Matthew Taylor, Elaine Pierce Martin and Greg Martin/Pigtails & Cowlicks, Chris Murphy/Fastek, and Travis Owsley/Beverly's Hearty Slice.
And a very special thank you to today's amazing hosts, the 92.5 The Country Station! WBKR crew of Chadwick Jerame Benefield, Mary-Katherine Maddox, Barb Birgy, and Dave Spencer. You guys went above and beyond.
The hard associated with climbing a mountain is nothing compared to the hard kids and their families face when battling cancer.
As a St. Jude hero, I have chosen to climb for a reason bigger than myself, raising awareness and funds for the kids and families at St. Jude. I am training hard and with your donation we can cross the fundraising finish line together.
Did you know:
Families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing, or food - because all a family should worry about is helping their child live.
Treatments invented at St. Jude have helped push the overall childhood cancer survival rate from 20% to more than 80% since it opened more than 50 years ago. St. Jude won't stop until no child dies from cancer.
St. Jude freely shares the discoveries it makes, and every child saved at St. Jude means doctors and scientists worldwide can use that knowledge to save thousands more children.
Donate today to help me reach my goal. Even when the climb is done, the fight to end childhood cancer continues.
“Miracles truly happen every day within these gates, and I thank God that such a place exists. You pray you never have to come to a place like this for your children, but it is really comforting to know it is here.”
